No. But there are countless scammers out there with elaborate schemes that take lots of cash from people who don't know better. Not even sure how they do it, but I have a friend (an idiot I'll agree) that lost $2000 to one of these guys somehow. All the fake check nonsense, and getting people to pay back overpayments on bad checks that temporarily clear at the bank. It's often grand larceny, and it seems like it would be RIDICULOUSLY easy to lock these guys up. And really slow this kind of thing down. For every post I put up on craigslist I get at least 3 scammers responding. Or maybe it's just one with different tactics, I don't know... but it's evil. And all evil should be stoppped!!!!! Forever, and ever!!!!! Yeah.

If an item hasn't moved in a few weeks then, more than likely, that once 'price is firm' has become 'make me an offer'.

Heck, I bought an amp on TB from a guy who said he wouldn't ship. Guess what. He ended up shipping it, and the amp hadn't even been posted for a week.

It never hurts to ask.

Most of these guys are operating from foreign countries with loose or nonexistent laws regarding these things. It would actually be RIDICULOUSLY difficult to lock these guys up.

Yep. I've purchased dozens of items from people who were "firm" on price.......at a price lower than they specified. I've paid paypal to people that specify that they won't take paypal. I've had items shipped from those that claim they won't ship.

The other thing that used to get me are the people that offer me half of what I list something for, and say "cash. and I'll pick it up today." as if they're doing me a favor. I always say cash and pickup only, and almost always say price is firm. I realize though that there are people out there who make a business of buying and selling, so if they offer half to everyone on everything that's available on craigslist, I'm sure they score lots of hits. Thems peeeps don't bother me no more. Scammers still do.

Ive had some good sales through CL, but not without having to wade through the horsesh@t first......I actually just got an Ampeg B2RE through it this last weekend, no problems.

I have been getting a lot of spam emails on items listed starting with the whole "is the item........." followed by ".....this might see strange, but do you want to grab coffee? I was very intrigued by your writing style blah blah blah"

A guy I work with actually just fell for a check scam on CL. Was selling a gooseneck trailer for $4900, actually talked to the guy on the phone, had a supposed "company name" and all. Deal was made, check for $4900 was sent. Buyer was supposedly from Kansas city, delivery guy was coming out of StL. Check turns out to be a fraud, supposed "company from kansas" doesnt exist, small hick town bank doesn't realize this until 2-3 days after they've cashed the check, and my co-worker has already spent over half of it. They told him he's got 3 months to repay the full amount. He's currently in talks with his lawyer (ironically enough, part of that fraudulent check money was used to pay off the remaining amount he owed his lawyer for a traffic claim.)

With respect to your friend, it amazes me that people continue to fall for this scam. It's been around for probably a decade now and CL has warnings about it everywhere.
