Is This Normal?

Yamaha RBX 170..has split P and a J pickup in it.

Replaced those with Seymour Duncan SPB-3 and SPBJ-3 pickup.

Was going to put those in my Jag SS but changed my mind and put them in the Yamaha instead.

Anyway....did everything by the book using SD's wiring diagram and also taking careful note of what wires went where on the old pickups before I started the job.

I can solder fairly well, even better since I picked up a few tips on the soldering thread.

So I think the SD's went in there the way they are meant to .

Finish job, plug in and........the SD's don't sound any different than the ones that came out.
I also notice they are not as "hot" as when I had these pickups in the Jag SS.

Didn't replace volume pots, capacitor or tone pot. I wouldn't know what particular capacitor was in there anyway. I know the pots are 250k though.

Thoughts?

I don't know offhand about the Jag pots...I'd have to check...

The Yamahas are 250k.

The sonic differences between most pickups of similar design and materials aren't as big as most people would have you believe. There's only so much you can do with coils of wire and mojo counts for nothing.

Put the Yammy pups in your Jag & see if they sound louder than the SDs did in the Jag.

I can't abide 250k Ohm pots & really want to write SD a harsh letter

Pretty sure the Jag SS is 250k pots. I've never owned a bass that had 500k pots so I can't make the comparison.

I thought the SD pickups were going to make me a rock star as well as the RBX170. Didn't happen. So I've got two letters to write. No wait...three. I'll be contacting D'addario about
the Chromes too.

As you know, I have a right to be a rock star and litigation might be forthcoming due to lost revenue I would have acquired by now.
