Annddd, on top of it, this was from the very early 70s. Way before the age of instant wrong facts via the internet. This was pro ported via pen and ink, word of mouth.... This was an old school grass roots campaign. Amazing.

Not even the body is a real Fender, it's fake all around. Same person that labeled the headstock made that sticker on the pickguard. This is one of those crap guitars that sells brand new retail for $89

You guys realize we're handing the bad guys a playbook for making better fakes right?
This is the place you come to to get accurate and solid information. Better that we give everyone the true story than censor it on the off chance the bad guys see it.
The better informed everybody is the better off we all are. Keeping secrets doesn't make you any more secure. A 'secret' only benefits the scammers in the long run. Because there's no such thing as a real secret. Facts are facts. You can hide or obscure them. But what one person has discovered another person can discover too.
Look at what happens when a computer vulnerability is known to law enforcement or the intelligence community and it doesn't get shared. Within less than a year some criminal groups get their hands on it and use it for their own purposes. Whereas if it had been made known, steps could have been taken to mitigate or neutralize its potential threat before it became a real one.
Repeat after me: The is NO security to be found in obscurity. The best defense against fraud is a well informed and fully educated public.
It looks like a MIM. The dark part of the burst seems about right. The MIMs seem to have the upper horn mostly black & only a bit of brown partway up. The truss adjustment does look wonky but the string tree is exactly what's on an MIM. I'd ask for better pics. The distortion from the camera lens is throwing the body shape off.

That neck is fake. Aside from the reasons listed (truss rod, string tree), the watermark is most likely from Korea or Mexico with "Made in USA" added on.
Fair point, it almost looked like a MIM brown sunburst when fender was making them darker around 2012-2013.
Nope definitely not any of that is MIM. String tree doesnt matter in the least
I'm not firmly in one camp or the other but some of it looks right. The pics make it very difficult to identify with any certainty. Hopefully the OP gets some better shots from the seller. I know if I was selling a bass I would furnish detailed pictures and the serial number for sure but we're bass players, we look for stuff like that. Maybe the seller isn't. Could go either way for me but it would be cool to know, right?

I didn't read every comment, so it might have been said, the USA P basses have a pattern for the pickguard screws (13 holes), one screw is right under the pickup, that bass does not have that pattern, a USA P bass pickguard would not fit on that bass. I can't say for sure, I'm not an expert, but, I think that could be a $89 copy of a P bass, if it is, $35 is a fair price used. the American Deluxe series have a different pattern, but, that is not an American Deluxe.

bad guys don't stop and research. there's lots of info already out there if they wanted to make a "better fake one". my assumption....they can't wead.
