Is this real?

I caught this on facebook the other day, watched it a few times and I'm thinking, naaah... can't be. Just found it on youtube (his name wasn't in the facebook post) and haven't yet researched the guy, but want to know your thoughts. It's best if watched in it's entirety, or at least watch the beginning, middle, and end.

I've always thought there were shenanigans going on with this. The left hand finger movements are too exaggerated to allow for the speed displayed. Economy of motion has to be used to pull it off efficiently. If you watch a speedy player like Yngwie play, it looks like he's barely moving his hands. Same thing with that Michael Angelo guy. The sound is also weird - sounds like something sped up in DAW software - and apparently is doubled by a sequencer. All this points up to the content being sped up. There's an old saying that applies to something else I won't repeat here, but if you see something that doesn't "look" right upon first glance, it probably isn't what it's attempting to be.

This player has other material out on the web, at slower tempos, and it's nowhere as clean and flawlessly executed as this video is. Usually, players can't step back their technique to sound less practiced than they are.

I guess what the crusty old guys says true. It really IS about the notes you DON'T play.

I don't like it. Not one bit. Maybe it's that condescending look he occasionally throws at the camera. If he was trying out for my band, I'd toss him out on his ear and I'm the least violent person ever.

Only at Guitar Center. It's impossible for anybody anywhere else. That goes for him, too.
