A bar owner was at our last gig and wants to book us for two nights: one in October and one in November. He wants to pay less than our usual. Here’s the kicker: he wants us to play four one hour sets with 15 minutes between each. We supply the lights and PA. Duo. $325. I split 40/60 with bandmate because it’s his PA (except for my sub and my in ears. He would never acquiesce to using my PA). I guess I’m a bit pissed off by his sucky attitude.
We use midi backing tracks and so just can’t throw in new random tunes. Owmer doesn’t care if we repeat songs but my buddy’s voice may wear out. I only sing lead on two songs and both have harmonies all the way through. I learned a half dozen or so songs to sing lead on, memorized the lyrics, and even sequenced the midi, which takes me about a week per song. Bandmate never learned them. Even a great medley I made he hasn’t learned after more than one year. He always takes ages between songs cueing up the next. He’s like “you’re going to have to talk a lot between songs, not just the song name and who it’s by.” Some songs I have a little spiel but really I’m not standup comedian. He also wants extra verses or whatever put into a few songs. So that will burn another minute or two on the night if I put in a bunch of work. All this for minimum wage. No thanks!
I can already tell this owner is a nightmare. I asked him to call me to discuss terms but he didn’t and just texted. After I texted back 1 hour set followed by three 40 minute sets with 20 minute breaks he didn’t reply. So F-orget this place.
Who’s with me (or am I wrong).
