Is this rosewood?

Some folks avoid Pau Ferro because it's pale and streaky. I had this fretboard put on a neck because its pale and streaky - it doesn't look like rosewood. I paid extra for pale and streaky

Certainly beats being stale and peaky.

It looks similar to the Pau Ferro board on my P. However, with it being 15 years old I’d say it’s most likely some other form rosewood.

There's only one way to know for sure. Take a scraping and get it DNA tested.

This and numerous other sources site 2017 as the year when Fender began the switch to Pau Ferro due to CITES restrictions.
If you have an older than 2017 MIA fender with a Rosewood looking board, it is almost certainly Rosewood.

Looks a lot like every other rosewood board I've owned. It only matters if you tried to sell it abroad anyway, right? Or does CITES apply only to importing rosewood? I dont like the "dried poo color" Pau Ferro boards Im seeing, but the pressure dyeing and synthetics like Rocklite and Richlite are getting so good that you soon wont be able to tell the difference anyway. Ebony was always my favorite, but any jet black you see these days has almost certainly been dyed.

Looking at those slabs of wood reinforces my feelings that they don't know what wood they are actually using. None of it looks familiar...

The Laurel chopping board shown above is made from Camphor Laurel, grown in northern parts of Australia, it's originally a tree from Japan, Taiwan and other SE Asian countries. Botanical name Cinnamomum camphora. There are other trees called Laurels, such as Calophyllum inophyllum, I have no idea what types Fender, or other makers are using.
