Is this stupid?

I am thinking of getting a Musicman Stingray but I already have a Musicman SUB... I like my Sub alot and I would never want to give it up... but it is a passive bass and every one knows that the musicman excells as an active bass. Its always been my dream to have a stingray so...what do you guys think?

Why not try running your SUB through an outboard preamp? I believe Sadowsky, Aguilar, Tech 21/SansAmp, and others make them. 'Twould cost less than getting a whole new bass, and you do love your SUB.

im pretty much a noob when it comes to technical preamp amp heads yada yada yada... would the Sansamp preamp be ok to use on a 100 W amp ?

When 'outboard preamp' is referred to, it's something like this:

You know how basses with active electronics have an on-board preamp (the bass, treble and/or mid knobs on the instrument.) Well, the outboard preamp works kinda like that, except it's an external unit.
