Is Traynor any good?

Found a brand new Traynor YBA200 head w/ matching TC 1510 cab for $625.00.
Starting to play again after long absence (got rid of my SWR, my Mesa, my '72 Bassman years ago) and trying not to spend too much on a new rig. Want tubes. Is this a good deal on good gear? Thanks!

From what I've heard about traynor, it's awesome. Like ampeg, but 1/3 the cost. The head alone is worth more than that new so I think it's a great deal.

I am jealous. I wish the YBA 200 could be my main amp now. You have the best kept secret in all of Bassdom. If you need something with more wattage then you must have graduated to playing arenas. Have a blast with playing though the Traynor and welcome back to the bass playing fold.

lots of folks think that for the price they are great.....tho at that price you are probably going to have to give up "this" to get "that"etc....from what i know about traynor is that they are good to deal with and back in the day they used to test for reliability by tossing tube heads off three story buildings in toronto,change up the tubes and fire them up....for 700 bux you are in 40 year old bassman territory,.they are great amps but 40 years is 40 years.forty year old traynor yba1' s show up around here from time to time for around $350 to $500cdn depending.....i would at least try one out......and they are still made in toronto

sweet tone and versatile, like the vintage fender bassmans.

Traynor/Yorkville amps and cabinets are great bang for buck gear. Much better than Peavey IMO and IME. When I was looking I bought the Yorkville over an Ampeg SVT3Pro and could have easily afforded the Ampeg. That's a great deal.

I have your exact setup. Both are awesome for the price.
Ive been playing with them for about 2 years.
The only problem i had was the tone at first. Didnt really hit me.
I ended up buying a Boss bass EQ pedal and it helped sooooo much. You should try that out, you can get a whole bunch of new tones.

Traynor makes great quality products and the tone they produce is killer.

I do not like their 1510 cabinet, sounds like mud to me. The head sounds great through other cabinets, though.

I have a Traynor 2x15 cab. It's been through HELL including being partially submerged in water from a flood and falling down a flight of stairs. Still plays and sounds as good as it did the first time I played it.. which is to say "pretty good".

I've been playing thru a yba200 for about a year now and I love it.

Had to get an eq to get the sound I wanted out of it (I got a 5 band parametric rack eq) also I changed the pre amp tubes as I read in a post here and that made all the difference in the world. The stock 12ax7's they come with broke up way too soon for me.

I played one as a backline at a large festival gig through an ampeg 15, and it wasn;t my thing. I like a smooth rounded tone with lots of low mids, and this amp just didn't do it for me, it had too much bite.

Can't say that I'm familiar with the Traynor bass amps, but I am familiar with their lead amps . . . I use an 80 watt tube Traynor exclusively for guitar playing.

Traynor makes good stuff!

I have the YBA-200; the head is good, but I've heard that the "matching" 1510 leaves something to be desired with it. That said, I'd pick it up and if you don't like the cab, sell it for something else

My 2 cents worth is that I have never been able to get s decent sound out of Yorkville equipment. I now own just a couple of guitar cabled (work fine), a few XLR mic cables (also work fine) and two mic stands with booms. The stands work fine but the booms keep dropping down when loaded with a mic. There's nothing worse than trying to sing and play and the mic starts dipping on you. All ether Yorkville equipment has been replaced with stuff that actually works. Living just a couple of mile from the factory, I really wish I could recommend them but I can't.
