I would think that if something has the Hipshot A bridge and comes "standard" at 16.5mm....there shouldn't be much harm at bumping that out to 17(ish)

It may be within the range of the bridge, but perhaps it would exceed the pickup spacing or, more likely, the neck width.

Is there anything more bothersome than to have the C string keep slipping off the edge of the fretboard when your playing an intricate run or attempting to fret a difficult chord?

As a side note, do fanned fret basses "feel" like their longest scale or the shortest scale...or what? I was intrigued by this the:

The reason I ditched the SRFF806 was because it was only 35.5" scale on the lowest string. Dingwall's are 37". I figured if I was going to go fanned fretted, I'd only gain 1/2" so it wouldn't really be worth it.
It's somewhere in the specs on that page. I think it's 35.5 to 34.

It's 35.5 to 33.6 I believe. The G string is 34", which to me is a less than ideal length for a multiscale bass. IMO the G string should be closer to 33". I personally think a 35 B to a 32 C would be ideal.

So does a Dingwall ABZ, for example, feel like its 37" B string or more like it's 34" G string. Or none of the above. I can't seem to find that answer.

Why are you restricting yourself to 34" basses? If it's because of the reach then you needn't be concerned: Warwicks feel longer than a lot of the 35" basses out there.

I have a 5 string Dingwall AB1 and it definitely feels like most of the 3" of extra length is near the bridge. Hitting a low C doesn't feel much different than playing it on my Ibanez SR705.

Well that's good to hear
