Isolation cab for an existing 2x12 cab

If DI is out of the question, I wonder about putting a mic inside the cab and then just running it at really low volume.

Anything goes when recording, whatever works....works. I say, why not at least try it.

Yeah I wasn't really looking at totally cranking it honestly. If I get the time between now and when I move I will build something and follow Joe Louvar's recommendations. Worst case I just use it on guitar. If it doesn't work for bass, I'll look at plugins.

I also bought a Radial Reamp box, so I can take my DI tracks that I've recorded at home and re-amp them later through my rig (at full volume) at our jam space/studio.

I’ve never tried one of these and personally I have my doubts so I’m not recommending this - but it was just posted in another thread and may be something you’d be interested in.
