italian songs...

While you intended responses to be about artists from Italy, I would like to point out that the Italian diaspora here in the United States has greatly enriched our culture.

Food. Art. Music.

Yes, these Untied States of America are a far better place as the result of the Italians who made their way to our shores, their hearts filled with hope and the promise of a new day in this land I call home.

While I can’t share the food over the internet, and I’m not really expert enough regarding the visual arts to offer up some examples, I do know music. And I know great music when I hear it.

When it comes to the pinnacle of what your fellow countrymen have contributed to our society, one song comes to mind. A song that stands alone as an example of the greatness that is possible when the light from Lady Liberty’s torch falls upon people hoping to find a new home in the New World.

I present to you, the magnum opus of Lou Monte.

In the mid 19th century, French vinyards were wiped out by an insect that originated in the US. French vineyards were rebuilt using American root stocks. Something, the French are probably not too proud about.

There is a blight in American music today. Maybe the Italians can send us new root stock.
