Double Bass Italy Bass sites?

I'm travelling to Italy this summer and just remembered that the early years of the best instrument has some deep roots in the country.

Does anyone know of any cool bass history touristy sort of stuff that is worth checking out? You know, Dragonetti, Bottesini, early basses, etc

Cremona is THE violin city of the world, and has some nice bass luthiers and shops, too. Nolli and Tetsu Suzuki, among others. The violin museum is fun and very informative, and has some very old basses IIRC Fondazione Stradivari – Museo del Violino

I'm thinking you mean St. Mark's Basilica, in the main square of Venice. They don't completely do it justice, putting it at the top of a not-very-well lit staircase, but it's worth seeing. Plus, Venice!

I'm not sure if Dragonetti's Gasparo is still in St Mark's, Venice.
I saw it there, but when Sergio Scarramelli renovated this bass it may have moved.
Still St Marks is worth a visit either way.
When I was last in Venice, about 20 years ago, there was an instrument museum with an Amati Double Bass on display. (I think Nicola Amati?). Brescia and Ferrara are somewhere near Cremona and Scarramelli is in Ferrara (among other bass makers.)

Hi there,

I was in Venice in Feb to see the carnival and these things. Check out a really nice luthier in there called Davide Pusiol. He has a set of very special and unique custom basses made of Olive wood, really well made. It's a small shop hiden in a narrow street, but a must-go for every bass player visiting the city.

I have a student who went to the museum in Venice last year and sent me some great photos. She said it was the best part of the trip for her.
