It's back! - Fender 9050CL 45-60-80-105

Will the Fender set give enough versatility? I don't just want all thud and thump as I do play some different styles of music.

I would consider the Fender 9050 flats to be "affordable, all-purpose and middle-of-the-road" and have always recommended them to anyone who's just venturing into the world of flats for the first time. Not too bright, not too dark...not too stiff, not too floppy.

If you want the old-school thump, get the La Bella. If you want flats that sound like rounds, get the EB Cobalts. If you want flats that still sound and feel like flats but are versatile enough to be used for different styles of music, then the Fender 9050CL should be on your list of strings to try.

Yep they are back. Along with a few other sets!

I'll be redoing my Fender strings section over the next couple of days! Been out of town the last couple weeks. This will be my first day back.

Any plans to add Fender to the build your own string set section?

Thanks for all the info I'm definitely gonna give this Fender set a try soon. I've only tried the DR Legend flats which I didn't like at all as they had no versatility. I also tried the Chromes in the 50-105 set and they had too much tension for me so I settled on the lighter set of Chromes which I do like. I will report back once I try the Fender set.

Can anyone tell me how these would compare in tone and tension to Chromes in a 45-100 set?

As a previous 3 years ECB81 user , it is a totally unbalance tension and unbalance volume set.

Just like what Micheal described. I found the E dull quicky than others, and the G is longlasting Zingy.

I must respectfully disagree.

@Yahboy is referring to the Chromes ECB81 (45-65-80-100) as being "unbalanced", not the 9050CL.

I mistakenly ordered a 9050L set prior to reading this thread. I'll see how the .100 does for a while. It does seem a little more floppy right off the bat compared to the A, D, G strings. Maybe I can order a single .105 from bso.com if need be.

The Fender 9050s do not come in singles. However, it is my understanding the Ernie Ball Flat 105E (NOT the new Cobalt) can match up with the Fenders quite nicely.

I do realize you can't ship Fender products to Canada (sigh...), but I just wanted to make sure you actually have them in stock if I'm going to keep recommending the 9050CL and the BSO to everyone around here.

This also means my local dealer should have their stock very soon. (So I hope...)

I'm just about to try flats on my "PBass" (actually a Yamaha Attitude Limited, but it's basically a PBass). This thread inspired me to try the Fenders, which weren't even in my radar before.

They have Tim Hortens around the suburbs of Detroit eh? I'll have to check it out next time I go up there. I'm originally from Massachusetts and they have Dunkin Donuts on just about every block. Almost everyone drives around with a large regular up there(Cream and sugar). It was culture shock when I moved to Ft Myers in 1995. They had one Dunkin Donuts in the whole city back then, it was kind of depressing. They have several more now but a large regular down here is a black coffee so I have to tell them cream and sugar if that's what I want.
