Normally
, I'd have to answer, "No", to that one. In this case though 
, we can make an exception 
."It's very expensive for a bass/volume/treble control", goes one side of the arguement, but it does fundamentally change the tone of whatever you plug into it and, in the case of a good Jazz Bass, will make it sound very Sadowsky-like, to my ears.

You might have just made my dream bass since the elements you combined are my two favorite basses of all time. Can I ask for a ballpark of what all this may have cost and when your planning on sending it my way?
It's kind of hard to put the "price" in the right context, due to the current depressed state of the dollar.On the one hand, I could tell you (truthfully) that the whole thing cost me less than a new USA Fender standard Jazz Bass would cost in Europe, but if I calculate the cost of all of the (European) parts and then convert it into what you would pay in USDs, it would scare the pants off you

Looks great! I've been using a Warmoth alder J body and a Status-Graphite J neck for about two years now and I've yet to find a bass that works better for me. Your comparison of the hard body wood versus the softer alder definitely hits close to home with me. I was going back and forth over using alder or ash for the body wood. I ended up with alder. Even though I can't say what ash (or walnut in your case) would have sounded like I can say that alder and Status-Graphite are a great combination. I'm currently using DiMarzio Model J's but its good to know that Carey's pickups work well with carbon fiber. I'm considering doing a dual Darkstar jazz with a Status neck but its sure hard for me to stray when the current combination sounds so lovely.

While there's definitely a lot of logic to that statement; I found the Modulus J neck and the Status J neck to be VERY different in terms of profile and feel... For me the Status was the clear winner but that might not be the case for everyone. More of a case of... Different rather than better.

I must admit, I'm disappointed. From the title I expected more of a Ray/Jazz mix. The only thing that makes it a Ray is the neck. You should have left off the neck J pickup and put a MM in the sweetspot. That pickup configuration kills!!!!! My Warrior has that configuration, and it provides the best tone I have ever heard!!!!

.I think that an ash body may well have been too "harsh" and "brittle" with the Status neck too, so I think that you made the right choice.
I like the colour of yours, BTW, did it come ready-painted

Sorry to disappoint! I didn't know what else to call it, other than "JazzRay" (there's already a fleet of "FrankenJazzes" doing the rounds ).Anyway, a week ago, I was considering an option that would have pleased you
and lifted the whole project into another catagory altogether . I was going to do this ......
In the end, I was put off by the complications associated with routing the (already painted) body and the baffling wiring options
, but it could always be done at some point in the future .BTW, do you think that the strings would still vibrate, with all of those magnets pulling on them

Yeah, that option looks a bit cumbersome. Honestly, if you lose the neck pickup altogether, it works brilliantly. How many times do we solo the neck pickup anyway? I am definitely diggin' the work you did.

Yep, its metallic lake placid blue and the pickguard is white pearl... I was going for a "classic" look. My next one will either be black with black pearl like my old Flea bass (loved that color combo)... or.... get ready for this one... dark metallic purple with a silver pearl pickguard....

Why not
? I think that Status necks look great with just about any solid, block colour (I'm not so fussed about bolt-on graphite necks against natural wood, or sunburst, but as you can see - I have very stark tastes
).
This is SO Much better than looking at Czech adult sites........ What a great bass. I'd love to see a 5 string version.

That's a nice bass, but I think it was a mistake sacrificing the Stingray for it. Sure, the jazz looks great, but that Stingray looked amazing.
What kind of neck is that? I'm liking the weave!

Sez you. My 11 lb Moses Jazz sounds incredible. The trick for me was combining Quarter-pounders with a Sadowski pre; that keeps things phat.
I actually think a Status neck on an ash body with a clear finish and a black pickguard would look ridiculously awesome...
