It's really

I've found in my life that if, I keep having the same problem over and over again with different people, the source of the problem is rarely them it's usually me.

Jauqo, you might feel like you get more than your fair share of the hate. But maybe there's a reason for it? As other people have pointed out, you do tend to provoke people, even if you don't do it on purpose.

It only appears as polite because rules are so strict and prevent the use of bad words and insults.
For the rest, smugness and self-proclaimed knowledge rule pretty much every discussion on the board. You find this scheme on many if not all boards but it's exceptionally powerful on TB. The same characters repeat again and again.
Gifted free minds getting bashed every time their opinion differs from the crowd.
So alled
Search nazis, to the point of killing any new thread they open without even taking time to read the question.
Sycophants defending the most commonly admitted ideas on the forums, refusing anything else until the trend changes, especially hateful toward free minds.
Forum librarists giving advice on subjects about which they are clueless, regurgitating what they read elsewhere on the forum and passing it as knowledge without testing it themselves. Sometimes they are sycophants too and become really annoying.
Fake open-mindness preaching tolerance and respect while really being sour and mean under the hood.
Kids (they can be 40 yo though) bashing any artist who isn't their role model.
The list goes on and on.

In general I've found this community fairly respectful. I've made my mistakes a few times and let myself get hot tempered, or dragged into debates that were a waste of time, and rather pointless to be engaged in. I also have said I'm sorry when I know I acted wrongly. I think maybe part of it is that we live in a culture where shouting down others has replaced open discussion, and honest debate is an art that was lost long ago. Even the late and great writer C.S.Lewis wrote about it in a satire piece about the development of a philosophy he dubbed as 'Bulverism'. I still however love TB and find it a great community when compared to other musician talk boards.

While I don't think it's that huge or dramatic, I do agree that a lot of it does take place. In my own personal experience, I've dealt with it. About two years ago, I posted a thread about how I showed up to a gig only to find out that my cabinet had a blown driver. I had no choice but to go without stage volume and rely on what was coming out of FOH. I said that the the idea that we need to hear ourselves with studio like quality on stage is often not necessarily and, frankly, unrealistic in many real world situations. Oh, did that ruffle the feathers. People could not accept that I played a good gig with no stage rig. I was told, in so many words, that I played horribly, even though the poster had not even heard me. On the same token, a few months ago, I posted a thread in the band management forum about using HR and I-O psychology methods for selection purposes when hiring a new band member. I knew that it would spark some interesting debate, which it did. I didn't expect everyone to agree with me, and some posters gave cogent and well-thought responses of why they disagreed. However, I did get some ignorant posters who simply dismissed my idea without even giving it ample consideration. One poster basically said that his degree and training in philosophy told him that psychology was a bunch of BS.

I do agree, however, that TB is one of the best forums I've come across on the Internet. I'm sure that the rules are a big part of that. It beats the hell out of my local scene's forum, which has become filled with idiots and people more concerned about whining about politics than talking music. I've been a poster since 2000, and while sometimes life keeps me too busy to visit here on a regular basis, I always seem to keep coming back.

It's the internet, and with the huge population that TB as it's normal that there is butthats. It's not because we're all bassists that it'll change something, sadly. some people get frustrated over nothing, some others just hate on others for no reason, some will take any excuse to bag on anyone, no matter who, some are just plain buttholes, and some are just mad jealous.

Sometimes threads start to look like Youtube's comments.

You can't make everybody happy, that's been proved on many occasions. Trying to do so, is only going to make YOU unhappy. "Being Politically Correct means always having to say you're sorry."-Osgood

Best solution? Don't give a rat butt about the haters.

I have noticed I have become a bit more argumentative lately mostly over the negative things I see happening to our nation. That might be coming across as negativity when in fact I am just pointing out negative things. There is a difference right?

I have one question Jaquo:

Why do you always use an incomplete statement or question as the title to each of your threads, when you could actually create a title that sums up the subject matter of your post? I seriously want to know. My suspicion has always been that the vague nature of your thread titles will entice curious people to click on it, rather than having people pass it by based on the subject stated in the title.

Which, I noticed fits nicely with Bongo's post:

JAUQO, honestly you bring a lot of it on yourself. You post threads all the time, with titles like "what if", "is it really", "is there such a thing as"; and then the thread is like some random bubble of your imagination, with nothing in your post to explain what you mean or why you're asking; and then when people ask you what you mean, or they crack wise about the vague or inflammatory nature of your thread, then you get upset.

I know in the last thread you said something like "if you don't like my posts then don't come in", and that's fair, but you seem to be baiting everyone, and hoping for responses that are not reasonable to expect from those baited posts.

The nature of your posting is so vague that it encourages people to reply, if only for clairifcation of what you mean, and since you almost always post about subjects that are subjective, people are going to post responses that you won't agree with. Like Bongo said, you bring it upon yourself.

Holy crap, that has to be one of the most succinct, on-target, to-the-point, Hit The Nail On The Head posts I've ever seen on the interweb. Ask a question, get an answer, Bang.

Thank you Bongo. And thank you too Jauqo for being at least indirectly responsible for this gem of lucidity.

I try and stay out of the heat, myself. Sure, I can maybe be defensive over some particular points of view, but Im sure everyone would like the chance to defend their position. The thing is, I try and do it without being insulting, without telling the other person that their POV is wrong, and with an open mind to understand that, hey, I could be the one who's wrong. I find that stance generally helps to avoid a lot of arguments.

Sadly I find that not everyone, in real life or on the internet, is capable of this, and I usually just walk away from them.

I stay away from those discussions in general as far as posting in the threads. Although we do get some heated discussions here and there in the college football threads each week.
