It's snowing!!

Woke up this morning to a couple of inches of snow, and it's still coming down. Now, don't laugh. Here in Darlington, SC that's pretty amazing. We get a good bit of winter cold, but it rarely snows. Kids are out of school, and I'm alone at my office debating on whether to close up and go home. There's more traffic on the roads than I anticipated, and that's dangerous, as people around here are idiots when it comes to winter driving.

You're safe and warm, stick it out at the office until they either get things cleared up a bit, or the idiots out on the road crash into each other and clear the way for you.

I have your avatar on a pair of my pants.

Oh, yeah. My son got up earlier than he would if he went to school, and has been in the yard ever since. The roads aren't too bad. Some slush, but it's not cold enough to freeze everything solid. Just enough to make everything nasty and wet for the next few days.

It's supposed to get back up into the 60s by Friday!!

Hey, T.O., it is pretty funny to see people around here react to snow. 1 1/2 inches and the schools and public offices are closed. I'll bet the grocery stores are already out of bread and milk. The parking lot was packed at 8:45. I never understood why those two items are always the first to go. Myself, I go for the beer!!

I was out walking my dogs in it this morning, it's really quite pretty here in Greensboro, NC today. I had a difficult time making myself get in the car and drive to work, just wanted to sit in my kitchen and stare out the bay window at the trees in the back yard covered in snow. Looks like we've got about 1" right now, and it's still coming down....

I know you "real northerners" are finding our reaction humorous, but it is a bit unusual for us to see this much on the ground for any length of time!

:)

Heck, I go for the beer, even if it isn't the apocalypse!

Heh heh. Yes. Yes we are.

This is something I will never cease to get a chuckle from. Up here, it can be -20C, or a fresh foot of snow on the ground, and life continues as normal. Down south, from what I hear, an inch of snow is enough to send half the population of the southern states into a near frenzy! I remember a teacher who had come from the south telling me about how many traffic accidents there were, because so many people simply had NEVER driven in snow before. I seriously can't imagine life without 4 or 5 months of snow every year.

Yeah, we were just talking about this this morning, a couple of the guys here in the shop are used to snow, one is from Long Island, the other from West Virginia, places that really get a good bit of snow.

It's pretty silly how everyone here reacts to the stuff, like it's the end of the world because there's this white powder everywhere....it really doesn't affect me at all, I just drive a bit more carefully (don't want to lose it on some black ice), and make sure to keep my center of gravity over my feet when I'm walking - I had a couple "almost slips" walking my dogs this morning, but nothing even remotely close to a fall, just a little slide (1"-2").

Half the people around here are flipping out though...:rollno:

Hey Billjr... I'm kinda jealous of your winter wonderland delight you are seeing there in Darlington today. The last time we had a measurable snowfall here in north Orange County, Ca. was also about 2".. was way back 60 years ago in 1949!! I hope you capture some great pics of that rare weather anomaly.
