It's tough being patient.

I am currently between bands, my last one stopped looking for gigs about three months ago. We will book gigs from former clients if they call us, but the band has essentially moved on.

I started spreading the word that I am looking for a new band shortly after the demise of my last one.

I know I am being considered by two successful local bands. With one of the bands I was told by someone close to the band to expect a phone call from them soon. I subbed with the other band last week and they seemed pretty interested in bringing me on.

This is the busy season for both bands and probably not the ideal time to bring in a new member unless it's an emergency situation. The position in the first band is playing bass exclusively; in the second band I would probably be a utility player (I also play guitar and mandolin), and would most likely play guitar and sub on bass when needed. I can also sing if I am careful about song selection.

I would love to join either one of these bands; the first one is more commercial, and the second one is more for fun. Knowing you are being considered is exciting, but it's also difficult to be patient while awaiting more information and possibly an offer. Of course, it's also possible that neither one will work out, but at least my name and the fact that I am looking is out there. Till then I have increased by playing time at church, and was asked this week if I am available to play with two new church groups that will be forming soon. If I get offers from either of the two bands that are considering me I will have to back off of the church gigs a little.

Any tips out there on remaining patient? Anyone else been involved in similar situations?

Thump on,
