I've built my first bass, what do you think?

It started out like this:

And here's the bass a few weeks later:

After I stained the body I worked in some roadworn/aging spots before finishing with Tru Oil. Overall I'm very happy with the result. Certainly made a few mistakes here and there, but nothing I couldn't fix.

Any opinions on the pickguard colour? I may swap the ivory one for a different pickguard. Maybe tortoise red? Mint green?

Love it! Great looking finish. I would keep the white guard. The only thing I would have done differently (not that I could do a build like that at all) would be to go with the traditional black J control knobs.

Thanks y'all! :)

Def not tort.

Don't know, roasted maple neck + tortoise pg has that Sire P5 vibe (which I think is a beautiful looking bass). My gf says I should stick with the white one, so maybe that's just what I'll do.

Yes! I actually have the standard j knobs on order, the chrome dome knobs are just a placeholder.

Love the color.
So much, i would go with a see-through pick guard.

I had to work in a battery compartment for the active EMGs under the pickguard, so clear or no pickguard is no option.

The only thing wrong with this post is that I can only hit "Like" once. :sour:

Fantastic work, my "blue bass bias" be damned!

Normally, I'd say "BLACK", too, but to my eyes, the combination of the pale, cool blue and that particular neck scream "MINT". It would give it a subtle bit of accent without taking observer's eyes off the stain and the grain. Case in point...

I normally like tort, but I think it will detract from the body finish in this case.
