I've just fallen in love

With a squier vintage modified fretless jazz bass.

I went to a local music shop yesterday and had a play on a few. I hated the squier precisions, but really like the tone/feel of this one.

Are they any good? I've never played one before, but have never been a fan of squier guitars.

FWIW, it would cost about £200

I think they are good for getting into fretless, and you may like the body etc alot, but for me who is used to playing 5 string ibanez basses, found the neck, plus the passive and controls really annoying,... it made me get my feet wet but i really want a 5 string fretless to get my whole body immersed into fretless playing,... if you like passive stuff could be good for you tho!

Very nice! I had one as my backup bass for about 8 months and it was a really great bass! My only problem was that it was a little too bright sounding, I would have liked it to have had a bit more growl in the low mids to match it's very pronounced upper mid sound! Still though, if you like it, it's a great buy!

I bought one used from a TBer just to try out a fretless. Very nice for the $$. Could never get over the look of the control cover just hanging out there by itself so I added a tort PG.

Definatly a keeper.

I've been dinking around on one of these in a local shop for about a month now (once every couple of weeks or so), trying to decide if I want to bring it home with me. If I do, the very first thing I'm going to do with it is add the tort pickguard. It just looks wrong without one.
