Well,

I was in the midst of restringing this bass (and cleaning it up/rewaxing it/etc.), when I just had to take a whole set of new pictures...especially given that I had the chance to do so without strings on the bass. In addition, I'd never taken any pictures of the back of the bass.

So - without further ado...here's the DP Custom Fretless. I really love this instrument, and the fingerboard is really one of the prettiest and most striking pieces of Kingwood I've ever seen:

I really enjoy playing this instrument as well...I'm SO glad I changed the order from a fretted to a fretless instrument about halfway through the wait time.

I did post a thread about 18 months ago with a fairly objective review of the bass (there were positives and negatives). Here's the URL:

Doog - Go to the strings forum and look up either "optima" or "maxima" strings. They are German made Stainless strings with a 24K gold covering. They sound fantastic and last a LONG time.

I know that Dave Pushic has had a checkered history with build quality issues, etc. His work on my instrument was really nice....not perfect...but it's definitely a head-turner. Most importantly, it sounds phenomenal in just about any setting. I can even use it in the straight-ahead rock-n-roll worship services without missing a beat (and still getting compliments on its sound and looks). Of course, it really shines in a jazz and "melodic-bass" context.

Anyway, couldn't pass up the opportunity to take new pictures with the strings off!

I can't understand based on what I'm seeing as to why this guy is taking a beating for his current work? I'm seriously considering him for a bass and I'm being sold based on what I'm seeing. If I could afford perfection I'd buy a Fodera -- but that's absurd for anyone not named Anthony Jackson, Richard Bona or Matthew Garrison. For us working stiffs who gig on the side, I ask you this at what appears to be $1500 bass is it worth the price you paid for it or is it under the quality of the price you paid for it?

Yes, I definitely got my money's worth for it. You can PM me for more details about price, etc....just remember that I ordered close to 3 years ago, so prices have probably changed a bit.

There have been a couple of bad experiences (people on this board) in the past (i.e. 3-4 years ago it seems) with some of DP's instruments. This is definitely something to keep in mind. His woodwork is definitely not up to par with, say, Pete Skjold's work. However, his instruments cost about 25% of the price of those instruments.

I'm VERY happy with my DP Custom...it's a great instrument that really has a nice musical voice. It's also flat out beautiful!

Vic's kinda of given -- in fact I think his full name is Victor Lamonte Fodera Wooten, if I'm not mistaken.

Think I will take a closer look at DP basses -- you do get what you pay for - the 2 most important things for me are sound and playability -- Does it sound great and feel great while I'm playing it? I can live with slight imperfections if I need to.
