I've read on here that this is a bad set up

I actually enjoy threads like this. It brings out all of the 'folks' who are determined to save us from ourselves. They show up early in every thread like this. For the record, I do not mix dissimilar cabs. For the same reasons that the 'anti-mix folks' don't. In fact, I bring just one cab to a gig or rehearsal. But it is entertaining to watch so many get their panties in a tightly knit bunch over this topic. It's part of what makes Talkbass so compelling. I saved the OP's pic to my computer. Whenever I feel mischievous maybe I'll pretend that it's my photo and start a thread just to get the usual suspects all worked up. Now, if I could just find a quality pic of a 1x15 sitting underneath an 8x10. Oh, yeah. ;)

M. M. :)
So... you're planning on trolling, is what you're saying?

Usually if I'm going to break a website's rules, I don't announce that I'm going to beforehand.

Phasing can be heard as a lack of clarity in the mids, or giant holes in your sound if gross problems are present. Biamping my 2x10 with 1x15 clears up my sound, at the expense of volume and a bunch of extra gear, not worth the candle.

Real deal biamping allows for delay to accommodate a phase difference at the crossover frequency.

If your soundguy looks at you like you got two heads when you ask about acommodating phase difference between his DI and mic "blend" you're better off with one or the other, I mean a full range mic, stuff blending.

My Excuse is, I had a Hiwatt Dr201 clone driving a pair of old Altec option SVT 115's and then there was this rather wizzo Eden 8x10 that lived locally that bellowed like the Horns of Jerhico with my old Simms Watts AP200 Super driving it, so I negotiated with the native chappy who was in possession.
I then set them up together in the drum room and feeling very naughty had the flagrant temerity to flick both amps out of standby, I moved them backwards and forwards in relationship to each other and the walls and using Waves software, found a place where they caused very little comb filtering other than that naturally caused by any reflected waves from other walls etc.
We don't all do gigs or record in anechoic chambers do we chaps!?.
Anyhoo it's not outside my experience that having turned up with, perfectly phased matching verticle 15" cabs aligned on stage, some fool with no idea of phase relationships between drivers in hi fi instillations!?, had the idiotic temerity to connect a DI to my bass and then connect it to an enormousness of PA equipment, full of loudspeakers, in all sorts of places and angles and worse still it had an in line DSP system of filters and micro delays, in a vain attempt to arrange phase between a stack of loudspeakers of completely different sizes and frequency responses, with only a 180 Degree switch on the console to save himself from the compleat and utter phase soup of a rock and roll gig. For Jehovah's sake!?.
My audio environment was however returned to a slightly more phase coherent performance after some chap was kindly sick in my passive wedge monitor, thus blocking the horn throat that was (due to the insertion of a capacitor and inductors) about 90 degrees out of phase with the bass unit.:)
I have come clean about my dirty phase relationships. So should you, it no good living in denial.:)
