No real history? Dood, The Jags and Titans(Oilers) both come from the AFC Central division, which has had some serious powerhouses over the years. The Colts and Oilers both have very long histories, like AFL type histories. The Jags are the spiritual successor to the Bulls (USFL), and were where the Oilers were first shopped to. The Texans are the spiritual successor to the Oilers themselves, when they went to Tennessee.

Lots of history. The fact that two of the most recent expansion teams (not counting the rebuilding of the Browns, also a former AFC Central team) are members of the AFCS notwithstanding, there is plenty of storied past in the division.

meeehhhh the texans have only been around for like 5 or 6 years (can't be bothered to look it up), the titans have only been in tennessee for a decade, the jags 15 years, and the colts have only been in indy since 85. then you've got the fact that the best team (in the division) has only been playing in the same division with the other 3 for 8 years (and obviously the texans as well). the colts were never competitive when the old oilers were any good, and never played any meaningful games against the jags. the only real case i can see for any sort of history is that both the jags and titans were in the old AFC central together and were both pretty competitive in that division at the turn of the century (which was only 10 years ago). i would say the two biggest rivalries involving teams in that division would be colts/pats (for obvious reasons) and titans/bills (from back in the day: "the comeback", "the music city miracle", and all the awesome qb duels in the playoffs between jim kelly and warren moon), although the later has obviously cooled off quiet a bit now cuz the bills stink, but it's still serious stuff that is part of nfl lore. compared to say the AFCE, which is full of old AFL teams that have been playing each other twice a year or so since the 60's, and you've got to admit the AFCS is a bit johnny-come-lately

'course the division is only 8 years old...

Yeah the AFCE has more storied rivalries. Jets/Pats, Jets Dolphins, Dolphins/Bills... all the drama like 24 hr Head Coach defections, Fake Spike game, Monday Night Miracle... then factor in the perfect season, the NY Sack Exchange's 68 sack season, Superbowl III (which saved the AFL from extinction for the record and created the foundation for the merger), and let's not forget it was a Mo Lewis sack in Foxboro that ushered in the Brady era... and I say by any definition of history AFCE takes the win.

i think fans of the NFC north and east would disagree with you there (i'm not though :D )

First of all, the Texans are 8 years old (based on the Jags pulling even at 8-8 versus them in history). In their history, the Texans have been VERY competitive for an expansion team, though not as much so as the Jags and Panthers (compare the Texans to the Bucs, why don't you). In eight years, they've had three winning seasons (if you, like me, count an even record as a winning season). They've had two shots at making the playoffs, only missing them this year because the math was against them. They also have a really slick logo, and were named after a classic AFL team which became the Chiefs. They have an overall record of 49-79.

Second, the Colts being in Indy is irrelevant to their history. Personally, I think their move from Baltimore was actually an important part of their history, but they've had a long history, at least 50 years worth. They've had their ups and downs, were involved in plenty of championship runs (think they lost a couple early NFL/AFL (SB) championships). Oh, and they have a history of playing buck-toothed quarterbacks. :D They have an overall record of 441-390-7 (not counting playoffs).

The Jags are 15 years old, and along with the Panthers, are the best expansion franchise in NFL history, going to the AFC championship game twice, the first time in only their SECOND SEASON OF EXISTENCE. Their second trip to the AFC title game was against... a DIVISION RIVAL. How often does that happen, I ask you? In seven years of being in the AFCC, they took the division twice. They hold the distinction of being the only team to beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh twice in one year, and have a 15 year history of brilliant, smash mouth, in your face games against the Steelers in the vein of the NFL of old. They have an overall record of 125-115 (not counting playoffs).

The Titans are a storied franchise. The Oilers were tough AFCC contenders for a number of years, winning the first two AFL championships, and losing two more later on. They've been to the AFC championship game three times, and the superbowl once. In the eight years of the AFCS, the Titans have won the division twice. They were a charter AFL member much like the majority of the AFC, and have just as much history as the rest. They have an overall record of 371-379 (not countign playoffs).

Oh man I don't wanna touch any of that NFCN bad blood, and I really think the NFCE is an over-rated div anyway... but the entire AFCE is all made up of former AFL squads Jimmy, so the bad blood runs deep.

Be that as it may, the AFCS and AFCN combine pretty much make up the AFCC. Bad blood runs WAY deep between Indy, Balty, Pitt, Cleveland, Tennessee/Houston, and Jacksonville.

If you think it isn't bad, look up 'bottlegate' on google.

Might consider just deleting that whole comment, 27.

That photo was one of the Browns chucking his... her... its beer bottle at a Jag and/or a ref.

Really???

Did you even watch that game??

We took the lead w/all your starters in there, and as I recall Manning was pissed when he was pulled cuz he couldn't find the endzone after 40 min of play... and momentum had already swung the Jets way when ya guys couldn't even hit a 2 pt conversion.

Hey Adam,
You need a Joe Willie jersey like me & Holy War.

Or at least a Revis.

No matter how this turns out, I'm a happy NYJ fan this yr, we did the impossible:
We lost our starting Pro Bowl NT AND our most explosive RB and somehow STILL lead the entire NFL in Rushing AND total defense. I can't imagine what we're gonna be like next yr. w/a full staff.

At the time I got my Mo Lewis jersey, I was actually looking for a Brian Cox jersey, but they were out. Next year I'll get a new jersey, I see too many Namath jerseys, maybe I can get a Maynard jersey?

Adam
