This one goes out to all the Epi. Jack Casady Sig. owners..... I've got an old Kent EB-2 copy from the 1960s, but I don't have a case for it, and being a 40-year old hollowbody, it certainly needs one! After an extensive search, it looks like the Jack Casady bass case is the only one that will fit, but I need measurments first, of either your bass or its case (or both!). So if someone would be so kind, here's what I'm looking for... Lower bout width Upper bout width Middle (hips) width Body length (bottom to hips) Body length (hips to top) Overall length THANKS A BUNCH!!
lower bout - 16.5" upper bout - 12.5" middle (hips) width - 10" body length (bottom to hips) - 13" body length (hips to top) - 8" overall length - 50.5" I didn't comress the foam while taking measurements so if you need something a bit wider, there's probably an extra 1/2" or so you could squeeze. body lengths are approximate to a certain degree. hope that helps.
Well, I took the plunge and ordered the case from Woodwind & Brasswind. I've never dealt with them before, but they offered free shipping on the case, for the same price as Musician's Friend, which also offered "free shipping," but not before tacking on a $9.99 oversized item fee.
glad to help. btw, the case is kind of deep, meant to measure that for you. I bought a piece of 1" thick high density foam from an upholstery shop to put under the Rivoli to allow it sit properly in the case.
YAY! UPS delivered my Jack Casady case this morning. After taking it out of the box, my heart sank a little because I thought to myself "My Kent isn't going to fit in this!" Truth be told, I briefly thought they sent me the wrong case. From the pictures, I was expecting (what looked like) gold latches and a more textured covering. I was a bit skeptical, yes, but there was only one way to find out. The fit is a little snug around the upper bout and top of the headstock, but luckily the lining has some give. The Kent fits, but with no room to spare. As part of my testing, with my bass inside, I secured all the latches, turned the case upside-down (bottom-up), on its face, various sides, shook it, and put it through all the motions it could ever possibly see. The case came through and kept my bass in place with no noticeable movement. That's a good thing in my book. The hardware feels solid with very little "wiggle" in the latches. It's all heavily chrome-plated and riveted to the case. I like screws and nuts and bolts, but everything feels solid, so I probably shouldn't nit-pick about something as silly as choice-of-fastener. I guess my only real complaints are about the covering and the lock. The covering feels soft and supple, but to me that translates to "will tear, scuff, and scratch easily." I'd really like a molded hard-shell case for my Kent, but this was the best I could find without calling up Anvil and getting something custom made. As for the lock, it's that cheap "opens with a paper clip" type. Luckily, I don't let my instruments out of my sight, so the lock isn't a problem for me, but it may be for others. Now for those who don't know me, I like to document all of my new toys and whatnot, so here come the photos!!!
I wouldn't worry about the lock. Anyone who wants the bass would take the case along with it. Congrats on a NICE fit and find!! That's the way you want a case to fit.
I've been working on the electronics, trying to get rid of this hum. As long as both pups are at full volume, there's no hum, but if I turn one down, or if I select one pup (using the toggle), there's hum.
They're probably singlecoils that just happen to look like the gibson mudbuckers. I doubt that humbuckers would behave like that, and with singlecoils, sorry but it does come with the territory.
They're actually Gretsch FilterTrons (humbuckers) under the original Kent pickup covers. Before I got this case, I kept it in a Fender acoustic bass gig bag.
I just bought a Dearmond Starfire on eBay that didn't have a case. I don't think they even made a case for the Starfire, and even if they did, good luck finding one now. At any rate, I just measured the Starfire, and from the dimensions described above, it sounds like the Jack Casady case will fit the DeArmond body perfectly (if a little on the long side, neckwise). . Since you'll never find a case for a Starfire (except maybe a Guild case which will cost $300), I thought it might be useful to post my findings here in case any other Starfire owners are looking for a snug fitting case. I'm going to order a JC case from Musician's Friend and report back when it gets here
Finally got the Jack Casady case, and it fits the body DeArmond Starfire bass perfectly. There's about five inches of unused space at the end of the neck portion of the case, but the body is held in place very snugly and it doesn't move around at all.
