Interesting thread.
For me, the ultimate bass amps are either the new Sadowsky or the Orange 200 watt heads. Both are tone machines, but sadly, probably neither are what bass players are looking for until they've turned upon that particular tone. WHen I hear the typical Hartke/Trace/Peavey SS head with EQ and built in crapola, I wretch. Purely awful tones. It's as useless as tone controls on a home stereo (yes, anyone who has either tone controls or EQ has no idea what good sound is). I admit I'm in the minority, but I also have the desire to buy what I feel is best.
And 200 real watts is way more than anyone outside of large gig metal bands will ever need.
Brad, your amps and cabs look great.

I just want nice clean power...lots of it, and lots of headroom!
I looove the way tube headroom feels under my fingers!
Warm and fat is good...grind, overdrive, grit will run me off in a heartbeat...but YMMV...
Look at a TFB420 or 550 for my absolute favorite tone shaping machine of all time.

Sorry i'm a bit late but what are the specs up to date for now???

is there a mid control?? an overdrive??

maybe one nice suggestion would be a kind of (don't be scared) mixeable fet/tube preamp in the clean channel, for people asking for a somewhat cleaner sound

an also a blend on the OD channel (maybe already suggested)

i'd love two gain buttons also, and a volume booster

or better, a switch that boosts volume when in clean and boosts gain when in overdrive

So I'd never have to buy pedals again lol

Here are the specs as of now:

01.) 6SL7 front end Channel 1
Channel 1 Controls
Volume
Treble
Bass
Ultra-Lo and Ultra-Hi Switches
Tone Stack Bypass

02.) 12AX7 front end Channel 2
Channel 2 Controls
Volume
Treble

Ultra-Lo and Ultra-Hi Switches
Tone Stack Bypass
Master

03.) 6550/KT88 power tubes (6x @ 300W)
04.) Resonance and Presence controls (Global)
05.) Direct Out (XLR) - Selectable PREAMP (post FX Loop) or SPEAKER Tap
06.) Tube Buffered FX Loop

I'm late in catching this thread, but some brief thoughts that come to mind:

1. Excellent call on 2-channels... if these are foot-switchable, this is very cool.

2. Same for the (i) effects loop, and (ii) 'mute-able' tuner output. Turn these on/off via footswitch is very useful. I would love to be able to patch in/out a high-quality compressor (e.g. Distressor) when I want to via footswitch. And others have already mentioned about the need for silent tuning and bass-swapping, which a footswitchable Mute function combined with a tuner output would allow.

3. Request: foot-switchable volume boost, i.e. increases the signal between the preamp and power amp section. Very useful for solos. I use a high-quality boost pedals placed in front of the amp, but this invariably effects the fundamental tone since you're hitting the preamp tubes harder. The problem with putting a boost pedal in the effects loop is the length of cable that this would require in order to situate the pedal on-stage. A foot-switchable volume boost, where the audio signal stays within the amp, would be very helpful for soloes.

Check out the latest specs. :D

What a panty waste...scared of a little grind....pfft :rollno:

j/k :p

I know you're jabbing me for fun...but look at my avatar and you'll know why I want big fat clean power:) If I was playing nothing but slab, I wouldn't be scared of a little gring, and in fact kept a mesa 400+ around for a long time. Now I just want one nice do-it-all. My junk needs to "double" now, I'm tired of different gear for different jobs. Current arsenal of TFB420, WT800B, and Navigator+qsc/plx...all capable of clean, warm, and fat enough for either DB or electric...

I don't know why, but i busted out laughing as soon as i read "my junk needs to double now" :p

I totally understand what you're saying. I'm from a slightly different POV. I love a little bit of grind/grit for my sound, but i also need that headroom for playing the clean stuff.

I love how wide a range of tastes this thread is melding together and i also love how the amp is catering to each of the major needs while at the same time doesn't seem to be going overboard. I'm already saving up for it :D

No doubt that makes the most financial sense. Although I like bizarre. So it looks like I'd be leaning toward the preamp as well, the rack thing is pretty much a must for me. It will have all of the features being discussed for the head? Channels, blending, footswitch functions? Also, would there be some way to run it into the front of another amp? My Fender doesn't have an effects loop.

Oh sure! The same features, just no power amp. :)

Guys, I thought you'd want to see this since so many of you invested feedback and ideas to make this happen!

To catch you guys up, during the time that I was conceptualizing a tube bass amp I took a full time job as a corporate pilot and that took me away from building amps. 5 years down the road, around 2010, that company went bankrupt and fortunately for me, because I was still developing amps in my spare time I was able to seamlessly transition from flying to building amps full time.

Fast forward to 2012 and Jackson Ampworks is about to head to Anaheim, CA next week for our first NAMM show where we will be releasing the Jackson Ampworks Behemoth.

Thank all of you again for your interest, feedback and patience as we worked to make this amp a reality.

I can't wait to hear what you guys think of it.

All the best!

The Behemoth is the marriage of two of the most iconic bass amps of all time; The B-15N and the SVT. These two amps are the most recorded and widely used bass amps in the history of music. From Motown to arena rock, these amps were there for all of it!

The Behemoth is a 2 Channel, 30/60/120W All Tube Bass Amp that delivers all of the classic B-15N and SVT tones in a small, powerful and portable package!

Channel 1 of the Behemoth is the Vintage Channel and is based on the 8-pin 6SL7 preamp tube. This preamp tube, known for it’s warmth and wide frequency response is where Channel 1 gets its Vintage 1960’s Motown and West Coast tones. The moment you plug in a Fender Precision or Jazz bass into Channel 1 you will immediately recognize where all the rich classic bass tones of the Beach Boys, Phil Spector and James Jamerson (Motown) came from! This channel with its Tone Shaping Switches allow a bassist to cover anything from early 1950’s Jazz and Rock to many of the classic bass tones of the 60’s and 70’s!

Channel 2 of the Behemoth is the more Modern Channel and is based on the 9-pin 12AX7 preamp tube. This channel, which is modeled after a simplified version of the SVT, is higher gain and punchier than Channel 1, and is better suited for Rock tones and musical styles that demand crisp tight bass tones. This channel with its Tone Shaping Switches allow a bassist to cover anything from Classic Rock to R&B and solo bass styles.
