Jackson JS3V Knob configuration???

i have searched through this site quite a number of times, and finally became a member, as i desperately need some assistance!

i recently upgraded to a Jackson JS3V, and need some assistance as to what each of the knobs do?

i have roughly gathered that the top two are controls for the two pick-ups, but i do not know what each pick-ups do (mid/low etc.). also, i have gathered that the bottom three are low, mid and high tone controls, but i am not sure on any of this.

could someone please confirm or correct my suspisions??

Stand up, pick your bass up, get ready to play it... look:

couple of pots nearest to strings:
neck pickup volume (the one nearest to the neck);
bridge pickup volume (the one nearest to the bridge).

the three pots down there go:
bass (approaching neck position), mid (center), treble (toward the bridge and the very end of the bass guitar).

Is that right?

I thought it was Vol/Blend, then treb/mid/bass?
all my other 5 knob jacksons are like that unless the JS is V/V and B/M/T

do one of the (2) controls have a center detent?

Hi man:
I once owned a Jackson Dave Ellefson Concert XL for awhile (the original one with P/J configuration)

Back then, the Concert always (either Performer, or Charvel series) sported a sole volume control and a blend control (with a center detent).

Now I've found JS Concert basses out there (hum factory pickups) and, well, let's say... slightly different overall quality, but they all sport dual volume controls (one per each pickup).

thanks Wallace, ya I have a ton of jackson stuff over here and never saw one with VV before.

however, a quick search on the jackson site shows you are correct:

Pickup Configuration: H/H
Bridge Pickup: Jackson® Humbucking Bass Bridge Pickup
Neck Pickup: Jackson® Humbucking Bass Neck Pickup
Controls: Neck Volume, Bridge Volume, Bass, Mid, Treble

Neither Dave Mustaine, nor Dave Ellefson were into Jacksons yet, back in the day...

Anyway:
the same cheap humbuckin' pickup appear on the Squier Mickey Way Mustang.

Like Gibson with Kramer... Fender led Jackson into the wonder world (I'm sarcastically jokin') of the VVT circuit...

It's gotta be like that.

the new CBX is the "upgraded" version of the JS, but Jackson NEEDED something to bring the name back into reality after the crazy high prices and disastrous no-sales in the 2000's.

the JS made if affordable for anyone to pick up 1 or 2 of them.

thanks guys! yep, my config is exactly what wallace320 described

although, we (my band) have just gone into the studio for some recording and i have discovered my bass makes quite a bit of hum/slight buzzing when the treble knob is turned up. this is a problem when i want a good tone!

is this a common occurrence with jackson humbuckers? or have i ended up with a faulty one?

I'm serious:

what I'm going to state is in no way the complete vision of the market, just something I verified thru the years and the basses I played.

Passive single coils, especially with exposed polepieces (think about Fender Jazz style pickups) hum, if not both fully open...

Active single coils, especially if they're quality pickups, tend to be "humcancelling", independently from the pot being open

Passive soapbar (or humbucker), tend not to hum, but they're often low emission pickups.

Active soapbar (or humbucker), quality or not, tend to hum...

That's why IME I came to the conclusion that active/passive circuitry is the best everyday option, independently from the style of music you dig.

my active pickups do it a lot though, with a bit of crackling as well.
do you think it sounds like i have faulty pickups/hi tone knob?
or is that actually 'normal'?

many years ago I stopped messing with cords and a 1/2dozen pedals because of just what your describing. I use a wireless into a preamp into the amp. Quiet all the time now using the same non-modded basses.

If I plug my peavy BXP ( 2 singles ), and crank the treble up on the preamp I can get feedback just like a guitar.

remember also, you can't put 300.00 pickups and shielding in a unit that costs less than 400, the pickups alone would cost as much as the whole bass.

Yes if I turn the treb all the way up on my CMG or any of my other preammped units it is so tinny it sucks in the first place so I leave it at 1/2way or a little past that.
