Jackson Kelly

Its passive pups with active eq preamp. Very nice find. Id take the Jackson over either of the other two anyday. More aggressive sound then the Spectors. Even in the versions of spectors that had same set of emgs in them. Spectors are nice, but theyre more standard rock and roll type sound. Rather then the heavier & more aggressive voice of jacksons. I like the compound radius thing jackson uses, but neck size varies between narrow medium and P bass wide chunky. Not sure which that one has. The narrow medium ones are my preferred. Often it seemed the narrower neck versions where also the lower price rather then top end versions. Cost wise. That was fine with me. Lol. Most had alder body. I'm going under the fairly reasonable assumption thats a 80's or 90's bass btw. Caue thats only time Ive seen kelly basses being made for imports. Dunno why they quit making those and the concert series that where bass version of the dinky guitars shape.

TB'rs are awkward wearing to me. The way the rear of body is cutout makes them seem like I have to allways push the bass forward so its not sliding in bad way against leg. This contributes to the overlong feeling of reach to the upper frets and nut. They and bc rich mockingbirds look great, but wearing em for body fit isnt so much so to me. To many other great basses with better fit for me. Tbrds also love to bang their heads against the ground. Bad neck dive.

that's a 2002 Kelly KBX Ray, only year they had them with the Concert control config and series parallel switch. EMG-HZ's and the jackson j2500 preamp. Alder body/bolt-on. Pretty rare as far as 2000's Jacksons go. I always wanted one in black.

soundwise? I can't tell you that because I never had one among the other couple dozen Jacksons I've had. Neckwise...well I'm biased and have played on Jackson necks since 1987 so I'm not gonna tell you it sucks :D

Awesome! I ended up pulling the trigger on it. I should have by mis week. I REALLY need a case for it!
you'll pay a hundred for one but i sometimes see em every couple months on musicgoround .there or guitarcenter.

I always wanted a black KBX to go with my TBX, just never had the "right time-right place" moment yet.
