Jaco relic bass?

Is this for real...
I found a Jaco relic Fender jazz bass on sale for a little over $5000 in my area. Its very worn, looks like its been modified and parts removed, added, drilled into, etc. Its in pretty bad shape. Seriously...think its just a 'replica', is it too good to be true and does Jaco sell off his basses (where they end up on the regular wall of GCs)?

Well, short answer that could have been solved by a simple google, yes.

long answer: Fender has 2 jaco signature models, one custom shop model (relic) and a regular model (just a jazz with epoxied fb and 60 RI pickups i think). Im not sure if you know this, but Jaco has been dead for over 20 years. another simple google would have educated you of this. $5000 for either of those basses is simply ridiculous. thats $1500 more than what they usually go for. if it is actually the bass of doom though... well lets say id be in some (more) debt!

The bass of doom was completely redone after being tossed by Jaco and broken and was returned to him repaired during his lifetime. It was subsequently stolen before he died. The recently rediscovered Bass of Doom doesn't look much like the original version anymore, though some of the guys who played it said it sounds like Jaco's bass. There's no real question about its authenticity.
