Jaco rolling in mud ritual?

Guessin this is when he was really wrapped up in the booze and the cocaine. Tended to go off the deep end and find some mud that day I guess. "Alright damn it, who gave Jaco the cocaine?!"
Mentally ill, yes.
In the 80's Jaco was known to do some crazy things as a result of his bipolar disorder being affected by his increased drug usage. I've heard numerous variations on a story about him on the train tracks around here.
Something about riding through Tokyo naked, on a motorcycle. Jumping off his motel balcony into the pool. If you have kids, and you need to give them the "drugs are bad m'kay" speech, just give them a copy of Bill Mikowski's Jaco biography. Should do the trick.
Also that one about how he colored his entire body with a magic marker prior to meeting with record execs to talk about his Holiday for Pans tapes.

not even jaco, the whole band seems so..not on the good foot. the first half of the trupet solo was the only good part. i got halfway through the trombone solo and had to stop it..
by 84 his playing really was not what it used to be. i need to go listen to heavy weather to cheer myself up.

What? He did a lot of coke and his liver got to the point where he could drink one beer and be completely wasted. Read that book. It's pretty sad.
I can't read the book due to so many inaccuracies and misquotes. I also hate how that book focuses mostly on how imbalanced he was later in life.
It didn't help that he could make any kind of noise with the bass and the crowd would applaud, like it was the greatest thing they ever heard.
I watched the clip yesterday and really enjoyed it. I was thinking how cool it was to see the Gil Evans Orchestra with all those great players like Adam Nussbaum, Pete Levin (Pete's bro) and Mark Egan tradin looks with Jaco, wondering who the heck that player was circular breating on trumpet no less. Sure that Jaco had fun just sliding in the mud pit with the other festival goers, & all those people in the rain WOW!
Then I read all of the insensitive, cruel and insulting statements and almost never came back to TB.
Come on, what is wrong with us bass players, acting like vocalists, wimpy gtr stranglers and other wastes of skin.
Aren't we supposed to be supportive and understanding?
Jaco is one of my few bass heroes, a constant inspiration who even at his worst was a better bass player than most of us can ever aspire to, whose tragic illness and death sadden me greatly.
Then I read all of the insensitive, cruel and insulting statements and almost never came back to TB.
Come on, what is wrong with us bass players, acting like vocalists, wimpy gtr stranglers and other wastes of skin.

That would be Hannibal Marvin Peterson. The other players were the fantastic Lew Soloff on lead and Gil´s son Miles Evans, also a mighty fine player.
Sure, there's no need for all the negativity, but this is a sad clip. Not just because it's a mediocre performance all around, but because it's capturing Jaco as he was entering the last phase of his decline. There's no need to sugarcoat things. It's visual evidence of the beginning of the end for one of the greatest bassplayers to ever live.
