Jaco tab[just brought the DVD]

Just had Jaco's electric modern bass shipped to me and inside is a book of musical notation,I believed it had tab! not worth returning as Im overseas[UK] so is there anywhere to get these tabs? googles not helping?

Seems like the value of TAB is significantly reduced when there is a video of the guy showing you exactly how to play it. Try slowing the video down if you need to...

I know they sell a separate book with the Modern Electric Bass exercises at places like Guitar Center, and for some reason I think it included tab. Not 100% sure though.

I can't read music either and own the DVD, but I think it is still quite informative despite this.

If you have the proper musical notation, you could learn how to use Powertab or Guitar Pro, which you can write out the musical notation exactly like it is printed and it will give a tab version of it for you as well

I've done it once before, with some Pink Floyd songs, before realising that the person who wrote the musical notation got it totally wrong

It's just kind of ironic that you buy an instructional DVD where the guy is telling you about the importance of reading music as part of the lesson.....then ask for Tab!!

if a person's interested enough in Jaco's playing, you'd assume they'd want to develop their musicianship beyond the point of "you put your fingers here... then you put them here" etc, which is basically what tab is...

but if the guy wants tab, he wants tab and 'tab sux' messages aren't any use (although tab does suck )

I mean, learning how to read is piss easy compared to learning how to play some of Jaco's compositions!

Id love to be able to read music guys as Jaco asks,its just time,I hardly get enough time to practice let alone learn to read,Id just love to crack into the exercises he shows,I know tabs not great but for scales and arps it'l do and save me alot of time but I appreciate the responses.

In the long run, Tab is a big waste of time - you'll save yourself years, if you forget about it and go straight to standard notation or just play by ear!

I preface the following by saying that I can sightread quite well - after all, the Real Book doesn't come in TAB. In other words, can we put all the machismo aside and just learn from one another, rather than flamin'?

I find TAB to be extremely educational as it forces one's self to finger in a way that may be different than what you are comfortable with. Thus, when there is TAB available for a piece I will often reference the TAB to see if the transcriber had a different idea for how a passage should be fingered. Why reinvent the wheel when someone has done it for you?

That being said, one should always be able learn music by all methods - by ear, by notation, and, lastly, by TAB. Forcing yourself to do things that are difficult for you will RAPIDLY improve your skills (in anything, really).
