My girlfriend and I went to visit her niece, as she died of SIDS and is buried in Fort Lauderdale. While driving into the cemetary, it came to me that this was the same place where Jaco was buried. After paying our respects to her niece, I decided to see if we could locate Jaco's plot. The office was open and the lady working there was more than helpful with furnishing me with his plot location.

Ten minutes later, I was standing at Jaco's burial plot. It was odd that such a legend was laid to rest in such an unassuming way. No huge tomb stone, or over-the-top inscription. Jaco seemed so much bigger than life based on all the books I've read and people I've talked to.

Never the less, it was cool to see his final resting place.
RIP Jaco

I don't find it unusual that Jaco has a modest grave. He wasn't a superstar except to bass players and jazz musicians. In general no one really knew who he was. It was only after he died that the "legend" was born. Besides, toward the end of his life is when he needed support the most. Not when he was gone. What good would a huge headstone or fancy plot do for him then?

R.I.P Jaco

As I recall from the movies Singles, Hendrix's grave is fairly low key too. That scene with Matt Dillon is awesome.

I visited Hendrix's grave in '94. It was pretty low key. Just a gravestone with a bunch of stuff left on it (flowers, guitar picks, maybe a joint, etc.). The grass was all worn away right around the grave.

It looks like they came up with something more fancy:
