The bass was the sunburst one he used in the his instructional video. It had the letter "B" carved into the face of the body.

It came with an extra neck, Jaco's autograph and pics of him playing it. If I remember correctly the price was around $35,000. I also seem to remember that most of the money was going to go to his kids. I believe that the bass was sold to a Japanese collector.

I don't think that was the one that Greg Rzab had (could be)... I think (I might be wrong) the Jazz Rzab bought (late eighties or early 90's), had stacked knobs... which makes me think it was a 62...

It was only in the store for a few months before it was sold. From what I was told, Jaco gave the bass to Jeff Andrews for safe keeping. Jaco died before getting the bass back.

Jeff Andrews!?! Wow, I didn't know that... that's cool. I used to take lessons from a cat Jeff took from... granted I really have no where near the chops that he does... He is a badass.

The bass in Jaco's video is not his bass, it's a jazz with a P-neck that they threw together for the video......probably while they where trying to sober him up. Jaco has the "shakes" in that video, but he still pulled off some very cool stuff.....but don't mistake that as prime Jaco, not even close!

...in an earlier post, I wasn't even talking about the Fender... I was talking about the Scroll/gothic-looking Rivera bass that Jemmott was playing for a little while during the video, then Jaco doubles himself on The 'Rivera-bass' for Naima... Is that what you are talking about?

Anyways, doesn't Jaco mention in the video that it was his bass, and that he just put a p-bass neck on it to practice on, due to the spacing and he didn't want the roundwounds to 'scuff' up the fretless f'board? It was understood that the video was made only a handful of days from when he was released from Bellevue, yeah the shakes were bad... It made me sad too :(

I am not sure, but I think at that point, his basses had been stolen. I could be wrong.
I was told at the music store that was selling the bass about the Jeff Andrews connection.They never advertised it as his main bass. Just as a bass he used to use.

I definitely know he has the "shakes" in that video. One of my friends told me about seeing Jaco messed up around the parks here in NY and how they would occasionally buy him food.

Having Jeff Andrews being mentioned...I have to comment on what a great & deep player he is! I've saw him a few times, and his soloing was so harmonicly rich it reminded me a lot of Jaco. I haven't seen his name on new releases for a few years, and hope he is well! What a unsung player Jeff is!!!!!!!

I'm familiar with Bill's overall skills (I've been around a long time;)) but you can hardly blame someone for coming to a conclusion based on what Bill has put out there. Why seek when Bill could easily make it easier to find?

The fact is, the attention-getting stuff sometimes gets this kind of attention:)

I wish I was just a little bit taller, then I'd have no problem dunking, where it stands now though, I have successfully done it twice, but I need more practice. I'm 6'4 I don't go to the park everyday unfortuantely, so I don't make much progress when I do go :(

anyone know how tall jaco was?
