Not that I'm the world expert on Jaguar basses, but I've never seen a MIA Jag. The MIJ/CIJ were unavailable in the US and Europe for a couple of years until this summer but may have been made continuously in Japan.

Try fender.com, De Luxe & Modern Player Jags are waiting for you, all Squier Jags are there too, 4 models in several colors too. Fender USA did make Jaguar basses 1960-mid 70`s, i believe.

I know all those models - Deluxe = CIJ, Modern Player = China. I thought you said there was a MIA version! The Jaguar Bass has only been around since 2006 and, prior to the Modern Player version, the Fenders have always been from Japan. There was the Bass VI (short scale 6-string) in the 60s and 70s, which was very close in shape to the Jaguar and was MIA, but I don't think there's been a proper MIA Jaguar Bass (unless the Custom Shop have made any).
Howzit - I noticed the image the other day. Months after retailers have been showing it! Fender aren't the best at keeping their website up to date.

You are right, no MIA Jag even now, but i remember having seen Fender Jag basses from late 60`s. I began to play in 1964.
I was thinking too hard if there was Fender Jaguar bass other than Japan products at all...
I had Fender catalogs from most years in 60`s, i remember Bass VI well, but Jag basses keep haunting my memory since then. Back then i liked only Strats and Precisions.
I'm undecided on this. I like P-J basses, I like the look of Jags, but it's lacking some shiny bits. And, as much as I'm not usually bothered by where a bass comes from, the idea of a Fender-branded bass from China seems a bit odd.

you're most certainly entitled to your opinion but i do think that 'it's just you'
.i mean, if you're familiar with the original mustang bass's body shape, the new ones are just like them. the 34" scale jaguar bass's upper horn was slightly elongated for better balance, but i think that they did a great job in maintaining it look. there's nothing wrong if it doesn't appeal to you, but i think that they are pretty faithful reproductions of the originals.
and if you don't like the jaguar, you probably wouldn't like the look of my 'jazzmaster basses' either (but i love them
)to me, it would be really boring if we all liked the same color, style and shape of a bass.
I'm sure plenty of people play them now, but until I saw one on the rack at the Music go Round , I had never seen a Fender Jaguar bass played before, either live or on the tube. GC didn't carry them. So, I may have one of the few models in the area.
The Squires hadn't been released yet when I got my Jag, btw.
I think I've only seen one in the flesh (and that includes Squiers as well, of which I've seen approximately zero) - it was a backup on stage for the lead singer/bassist of the band Delphic. Seemed odd having a Jag as a backup for a P, but it wasn't used anyway.
Maybe that's another reason I'm strangely attracted to the idea of owning one - their near-mythical status...

I have a CIJ Fender Jag in black, and I'm gassing for a short scale Squier too. RE the shortscale, andyone have a replacement Jazz pickup idea that'll get the gain to be a closer match to the P pickup? They're so cheap I was thinking maybe a musicman humbucker, as I already get a great Jazz sound from the Fender...

They finally have the Cobalt Blue with an image!
Now, this one doesn't look half bad! Close in colour to my Jazz, and it would look awesome to me with a maple fretboard.
Maybe I could reconsider my opinion of the Jag body as "deformed", though I still love the looks of the Precision and Jazz.
Actually, I think I dig them, John K. The blue one with matching headstock, particularly.
And, yeah, it is only probably me who thought Jags/ Mustangs/ Jazzmasters look deformed. But not really. I usually dig the whole "Fender" looks, so I'm open to accept them as part of the "family".
Very true, indeed. I like the idea of having the basses I love even if some other people don't like them at all. That's not the case with my Jazz. A couple people at least have complimented it.
My guitarist just gave me the new cobalt blue Jaguar. Great tones with many appealing sounds. However, a new $900 bass that needs re-shielded is not getting my vote for a return to Fender products. This thing is unusably noisy.
