Jaguar pickup swap

I really like my Jaguar but played a new American Precision at GC and loved the tone. Now I'm thinking of swapping one of the pickups for a p style. My questions are; passive? will the series/ parallel switching effect the tone with the other pickup switched off? any problems forseeable with active on?

btw, sanded the back of the neck w/ 220 grit, feels like the american p bass, faster and oooo so silky!

that will KILL resale value on that bass. also, it'll take lots of work to wire it in to the Jag's system.

and you have to custom make a pickguard,etc.

it'd be a better idea to sell your jag to buy an American P.

Should work active or passive. The Series/Parallel won't affect the tone without the other pickup on. The real question is, what is the cost of having someone route out the area for the Precision pickup, and the custom guard? It sounds like maybe you would prefer P or P/J type instrument. You might consider getting one of those instead of doing all this work to the Jag and possibly not getting what you want.

Thanks for the input. I bought this one used, and i'm not worried about resale as my '71 jazz and '87 reverse thunderbird are my "investment" bases. This one is my daily player and i'm up for a diy frankenbass project.
