Jamareo Artis is unreal!

I heard a song at the physical therapists with brilliant bass and googled it as soon as I came home. My little girl scrunched her nose "you like bruno mars?!" I think the only thing I've listened to in the car with her is Fu Manchu and Kyuss. Poor kid. What other new acts are out there worth listening to that are worth listening to?

The Jamareo Artis Warwick Custom Bass Thread brought me here. Wanted to know who played bass on the actual recording of just the way you are and if it was anything like that live performance channeling James Jamerson. First I found out all instruments on the recording were played by Mars & one of his producers, was a little skeptical they would/could a bassline like this on the record. So I checked some radio/video editions of the song and there is not even a bassline worth mentioning on there. So, I have to bow my head to Jamareo Artis for this greatness!
Are pop songs like this are offically re-arranged for live/touring (and additional instrument parts written out note for note) or do you think he just got the changes and went wild?

It would depend upon the band. Some want the same thing every time with no surprises, others are more open to improvisation. For a pop musician what makes jazz musicians seem fearless at times is their willingness to reach for something they have never done before during the performance and depend upon their collective experience and skills to keep everything in line.

Its kind of ballsy on his part to rock a passive Precision so hard in a genre that seems so heavily dominated by high end actives and Jazz basses these days. Carrying the Precision torch and keeping it front and center where it belongs! It's also refreshing to see such a skilled player using it to its fullest potential in a pop context, a la Pino. Love it.
