Love that license plate, Fran. Mine is just the ABC-1234 style. (And the 63 hofner, pretty much my holy grail bass, lucky you!)
Thanks! I was thrilled it was available. Had one back in the early 90's too but it was "J-MERSON". A pic of that plate made it into Bass Player Magazine with a little story on me. Very cool!

I was jamming to 60's radio and heard this version of Heard it through the Grapevine for the first time.
Immediately I was just loving the bass. Knew it had to be Jamerson. I went home and looked it up to be sure then came upon this gold mine:

You changed the thread title! Is JJ in the rock and roll HOF. I know by formality Joe Long got excluded, but that's a separate topic.
Ivan, it's actually the South Carolina Hall Of Fame that's being petitioned. He was inducted in to the R & R HOF in 2000.... Title change was done by the mods to streamline things a bit, and for rule clarification. All cool!
31 years ago today, my hero (and yours) James Lee Jamerson passed. A genius the likes of which will never be seen again. Like Marvin said, 'BASS, PERSONIFIED'... Well, it started as a little thing just to do my part, and I'm so pleased to see how it has grown. And my license plate always gets attention, and when folks ask what it means, I'm more than happy to tell them the story. Then they hear all that great Motown music in a different light. JAMES' LIGHT! ... James, down here, there's more love than ever for you, and it's growing daily. You left us with a beautiful, tremendous body of work, with your heart and soul stamped in each of those thousands of songs. So many, that we'll never hear them all in our lifetime. Rest in peace, brother....
