Does it matter? The guy was a gun bassist and could have strung his bass with fishing line and made it sound good.

James Jamerson actually played roundwound strings (!)

I heard he actually recorded with a Jazz instead of a P, and posed for photos and on concert gigs with the P because traditional electric bassists were against the 'new guy' on the scene.
There was a major anti-Jazz bass backlash in the 1960s. It took Larry Graham to come out of the closet and make the Jazz bass fully acceptable to the masses.

According to SITSOM, some people bought him some new rounds out in California, but he refused to put them on. Also, he never changed his strings unless broken, so I don't see how he could have had rounds.
Wasn't the film called "Dr. Flatwound (or how I learned to hate playing rounds)?

I'm not buying, AT ALL, this author's statement about Jamerson using roundwounds. He's not citing anything in reference to where his claim is coming from, and everything any of us have ever read contradicts this.
