I rarely comment on this forum and especially on anything related on Tyler basses but as a teen, I fell in love with the headstock shape and all my favourite bass players seemed to play Tyler at some point or another. So whenever I see a Tyler bass, I pay some extra notice. Today was that day, when I spotted one on YT, watching a Raging Honkies live from 1994 featuring Teddy Landau on a very unusual looking Tyler. Have a look.

Fellow club members, I'm going to be selling my James Tyler Custom 4-string. I'm letting the club know in case someone here wants a 4-string. I had Jim build it for me in 1999. Nice shape,
keth and tyler bass summer 2011 (2).jpg
Carribean Burst, Barts, Demeter, stock with custom active passive switch and SIMS LED's. 8.8 lbs. Retired these days and only playing out a little. I've gotten way into Alembic basses in the past 3 years, after spending 20+ years with my Tyler as my main player.

I have 2…both 4 strings. I have the third one made with custom wiring done by Jim and Tom Anderson. It’s got the best neck of any bass I’ve ever owned and a wild preamp section (I think they were working the preamp out when the built this) but I never play it…so it might go up for sale. I’ll post pics soon.

It’s very late 80’s, early 90’s looking but very cool. When I talked to Rich at Tyler’s shop he said “oh, you have the white one”. It’s my understanding that only like 34 Tyler basses were ever made but that seems low given the number of people I personally know that own one.

This is my late 1980s 4-string with Demeter Preamp and James Tyler PickUps. I know of two other ones of this model, a black one that is probably in Germany and a white one that was sold a few years ago by Imperial Vintage Guitars in Burbank CA. Cheers!

Former poster (and wicked bassist) bassarama had one of these and I had the chance to try it. It had hands down the most versatile and punchiest J-bass tone I have ever experienced. They are special :)
