So I am an avid j rock listener and really like how the bass lines are complex but still fit the song. I also like how melodic they are. Some examples are L'Arc en Ciel, Mongol800(a bit more standard punk), Judy and Mary, and Asian Kung-Fu Generation.

I've been trying to find out what types of tricks they use in their basslines but came out mostly empty-handed so could somebody help provide information on how j-rock basslines work and on how to write a j-rock like bassline which is fun and melodic?

Some examples of what I am trying to achieve or at least understand:

    L'Arc en Ciel's "Honey":

    L'Arc en Ciel's "Flower":

    L'Arc en Ciel's "Blurry Eyes":

    Mongol800's "Ryukyu Aika":

if I seem unclear, I will try to answer your questions

Classic melodic filling between the chords. Listen to Paul McCartney and many many many others. ;)
