I have also heard them called "Juice Harps".

I dang near cut the tip of my tongue off with one of those things when I was little.
It belonged to a member of Buck Owens Band who was jamming with the guys on the front porch of my uncles shack.
Real hillbilly style, Jug, spoons, washboard, gutbucket, etc..

Yeah, people in the sticks actually do that.

P.S. I never watched heehaw again after that.

Had one a long time ago. I remember having a lot of fun with it. I wonder where it could be now? As someone mentioned before, if you're going to try one, make sure to put enough pressure against your teeth, otherwise you may chip a tooth. And keep the tongue away.
