Jay Turser P-Bass

I know recently I'd been curious about Jay Turser basses so I went down and finally just got one. I figured I'd write about it because there's not much at all on here about these basses. Well to start it's a 401-C, it's a P-bass copy, one metal volume knob one metal tone knob. The tone knob does alot, it's very sensitive, which is a pleasant surprise in a intermediate level bass. The strings it came with aren't bad at all but I'll be replacing them shortly. The thing I love about this bass is how well it stays in tune, I've had it for a little while now and it stays perfectly in tune even if it's been bumped around and such. As far as the tone it sounds great, the action isn't the best I've played but that's to be expected of a $200 bass, and for that it is a great playing, great sounding bass. I'll post some pics soon.

I play and I owned better than 50 bass guitars, that said I feel Jay Turser are a real bargain and might surprise a lot of folks, I owned 2 and will always score anotherI kind of like the blue hollow body one. There are afew guys who have violin bass by Turser.Play it and enjoy it.I have played mine on some pretty big venues

Please post pics. The JTB-401 is quite popular around here. If you do a search for "Turser" you may find some of the many threads on this wonderful little bass. I brought mine to the NYC GTG last year and it was very well received. I love it. If you spend some time in setup you can get the action very low - the fret work is surprisingly good!!!!

Some nice pics in this thread including pics of mine.

I've played a few Turser guitars, as well as their P and Violin bass copies. If all Tursers are like the ones I have played, they are great value and wonderful tone for the money instruments.

Yeah the tones I get out of mine are really nice, I'm thinking of putting new pickups in though just to see how good I can make it sound... I have it narrowed down to either the duncan quarter pounders or the Fender vintage P pickups... any advice on that guys? I play grunge, alternative rock, and metal so I'm thinkin the duncans would be better

I don't know about the split-P pickup in your P-bass, but on the single coil P-bass version by Turser the pickup is fabulous out of the box. Whatever you decide to try, keep the one you have handy in case you like it better. Take a look at the For Sale section and ebay for second hand Fender and similar pickups.

I really do like the split P that it came with, their great. I just wonder if the Duncans would add anything to it, I notice that the higher notes are just a little bit too treble-ish for my taste but that could very well be my amp too... overall a fantastic bass for the price, I can't wait to gig with it it's just a really fun bass all around

One more thing I should mention, these basses run a bit cheaper than the comparable Squier's- that's why I bought it, I was looking at Squier's too but this looked at LEAST as good as the Squier's for slightly less!!!
