Jay Turser?

I've had a Jay Turser 401 tele-copy, and it was a decent bass. Very light body, so light that I added a P-style bridge cover and stuck some lead tire weights under the cover to balance it better. It was still under 8 pounds IIRC.

I also added the chrome stripes, and it was a nice looking bass with a maple fretboard. It had the standard single coil style pickup,. Over time I moevd to shorter scale basses, and sold this one. As far as build quality, neck, tuners and electronics I had no complaints at all.

One of my beater basses is a J Turser P Bass.......Soundwise, it sounds like a P.. .it actually records pretty well....pickup is 'meh' but it can always be replaced; i only have 50 bucks in it and i would feel silly dropping a much more expensive pickup in it ( unless I absolutely loved it but Im not a single pickup P bass guy to begin with)....Construction wise: not too good and the body's 'density' feels like plywood but Ivenever taken it apart to find out...I leave it in the living room to noodle around on or drill fingerings while watching TV

What do you guys know about Jay Turser instruments?
I own a one of a kind 5 string 32” scale ABG that is absolutely gorgeous with quilt maple top and abalone binding. Has great playability and surprising tone when plugged in. Best advice is play before you buy if at possible

I have a Turser violin bass from 2005. I like it pretty darn well, actually. My late 60's Realistic sounds better but the the Turser sounds quite good and plays easier.

My daughter's first guitar was a JT Strat. Very cheesy electronics, but playable. She stuck with it, so I bought her a Fender.

This was a bunch of years ago, so they may have gotten better. Or worse.

I have a couple of SX basses that cost about the same but are of far better quality, especially after I swapped in DiMarzio pups.

I have the short scale version of the hollowbody that later became a 34" scale model.

I have to say, it's a beauty. Very nice flamed veneer. The pickups are hot and quiet. It's had the same set of Chromes on it for around 10 years. Have played weddings and festivals with it.

Particularly if you get one secondhand as I did, a JT instrument can be among the better deals. Real workingman's instruments.
