Jazz and Stingray pickups in one bass?

I have the same need. This is a pic of my Modulus. I love the Stingray tone, miss the sound of a single coil jazz, and want both...of course! I talked to Mike Lull and he steered me towards getting a Seymour Duncan alnico pickup to replace the MM Bart. He will add a toggle (or maybe a push/pull pot) for the back pickup to access the single coil. He also assured me that the blend control will manage any output differences that I might encounter.
Nordstrand also has a really nice MM with single coil option (mm4.2, mm5.2). The reason that I am going with the SD is because I have a Bartolini pre and he feels that SD and Bartolini is a great partnership. He likes Nordstrand paired up with an Aguilar preamp.

That is a seriously cool pickup. I had a high end Warwick years ago that had an MEC neck position Jazz p.up and a bridge humbucker that you could switch to single coil....pretty much achieved what the OP was looking to do. Dunno if you can buy those pickups by themselves though. That Delano with a neck position Jazz looks like it's worth serious consideration.
The only issue that I saw with that pickup is that you may need the Sonar 2 Hybrid preamp to take full advantage of the switching possibilities. Read the description on bestbassgear.com. They explain it in greater detail. If you are simply looking to replace a pickup and add a toggle, customize a preamp, or run it passive, you may want to look into other options. Might be worth a phone call. They are charging $350 for the 4 string bundle.
I'm big on the MM pickups in my basses, and I also like the J's. I modified one of my Dean basses, which came with one MM-style humbucker and added a J sincle coil in the neck.
The problem with splitting the MM coils is that, if you originally have them wired in series, you will get a 6dB drop on volume when splitting (you basically drop out one coil). Also, switching from series to parallel wiring will yield the same volume drop. In this situation, you will get an uneven balance of volume between the J and MM pickups.
In order to keep this from happening, I keep my MM wired in series. But when I want to split the coil, I have a .1uF capacitor wired into the switched grounding side of the coil to boost the volume back up. This way both pickups are always the same volume. I also have it wired to switch between north and south coils, and that slight positioning difference does give a different tone for each coil.
I don't use parallel wiring at all, I have no use for it.

That's the problem I'm having with my MM+J 5 string..... though it is active so there are remedies......

as the whole electronic setup is Bart it's a viable solution.
Also, the MM pickup is in the MM position .....I believe the Jazz PU is closer to the bridge... that may account for the stronger MM out verses the Jazz,..... closer to the bridge there may not be as much string vibration.

The humbucker on my Am. Deluxe P-Bass doesn't sound ANYTHING like a MM, it's more like a little fatter Jazz (what Fender wanted??)
