Jazz bass 24 action?

Has anyone else with the 24 experience fret buzz with a low action as I have? On my American standard it is low and sounds really good. The 24 (which I love) needs the action raised pretty high in order to get rid of what I find to be a twangy, hollow buzz. Not all frets, just some, my guess would be around 5-6.

The neck looks to be straight. The strings are heavier than the standard ones Fender includes Super Bass 8250M NPS, p/n 073-8250-006, Gauges: .045, .065, .085, .110TW (Taperwound E). Can the longer neck also be a factor?

I was thinking neck relief. If you look straight down the neck from the tuners end, Fender jazz necks are at their best with the very slightest kink towards the top of the neck (again, tuners end!). If the neck is too "arched" or flat you'll get a lot of fret buzz.

I learned all this with my ultra thin Geddy Lee jazz which would change neck shape with the weather, but the best and most stable wooden neck was my S1 American jazz.

Could also be an idea to check whether you have a slightly proud fret anywhere, particularly towards the top of the neck.
