Jazz Bass Blend Pot Wiring - HELP!

There is zero change in aesthetic.

It's done like this, but with the switch moved over to the tone control, in your case.

Oh! That makes much more sense now! For some reason I was thinking I would need to replace the push-pull pot with a toggle switch... And to think they gave me a drivers license.

Thank you line6man, I will put it together this way tomorrow

Ok, several wrinkles, aside from working 3 jobs and having almost no time to mod...

My push/pull pot is just short enough that it only fits in the front or top position of my control cavity, where the neck volume pot position is, and it is already the shortest standing pot I could locate. Secondly, this same pot (and all others I could find) has a 3/8" thread bushing, and my bass only has 1/4" holes in the body to accommodate it. It's an aerodyne, and therefore has no pickguard or control plate.

I do intend on carefully boring out this hole in the mean time, but perhaps I could be enlightened just a bit on how the last wiring works in diagram I received. It looks like the tone pot only has one wire going to it, so I'm not sure how it would even be in the circuit, and I'm also not sure how I would switch the two around.

I'm not even all that concerned anymore if the push-pull pot controls my tone. I just want to be able to switch from parallel to series, blend between the neck and bridge pups, have a master volume control, and a tone control.

Also, so that I don't continue to bug anyone and mooch off of others' valuable time and knowledge, are there any sites to which I could be directed that would educate me more thoroughly on the function of guitar/bass circuitry?

I apologize if I sound like an amateur, and also for possibly being too apologetic. Many thanks

Thanks to all, especially to walterw and line6man for your expertise and very useful information.

Based on several of your contributions on various threads, I've come up with this wiring scheme for my future "Dark Starred" Jazz Bass, featuring:
- coil tap
- series/parallel
- blend

I hope I didn't miss anything, so please feel free to point out any inconsistencies.

I got your PM, but haven't had a chance to respond. A lot of things are going wrong in that diagram. Particularly, some mix ups between neck and bridge pickup connections, and improper wiring of the tone control. Start with the 3PDT series/parallel diagram for a VBT setup, and simply add a switch for the coil tapping. The hot goes to one throw, and the coil tap goes to the other throw. The common then functions as your output.

Thank you line6man. I've made changes to mixed-up neck/bridge TAP connections + the incorrect tone pot wiring.

Does this imply that the coil tap switch wouldn't come first in the signal path from the pickups?

Here's the diagram with changes I've made so far.

The switching is correct now, but the tone control is still off.

Wire the tone pot to the same terminal on the volume pot that the blend pot is wired to. Then wire the jack to the middle terminal of the volume pot, instead of the tone pot.

Thanks again line6man!

I'm still a bit confused reading the diagram below, upon which I first attempted to draw my diagram. I noted that 1st and 2nd terminals should be swapped around on volume pot, so that, if I read correctly:
- volume's 3rd terminal connects to blend/series output
- volume's 2nd terminal connects to tone's 1st terminal
- tone's 1st terminal connects to (+) output jack
- tone's 2nd terminal connects to capacitor

Is there some reason this volume-pot wiring configuration wouldn't work in my application?

Swap the first and second terminals around on the volume pot.

I am digging up a 7 years old post because I’m looking for a diagram for VBT that works. I read the full post but too many words about lugs in blend pot. Is the first diagram of the post good ? Or have you an other diagram that works ?

thanks!!

It's good. You can leave the ground wire off the blend if you like. You can also make it NO-LOAD Ultimate No-load Ungrounded Blend Pot (Pics!)
