Jazz Bass Neck Pickup

Fair enough mate. Note I didn't say there was no difference; I agree there is one, but to my ears the difference is pretty small. Just wanted to share the comparison is let the OP decide what he hears/thinks.

For me personally, when I'm listening to music I can usually hear "neck pickup" in a mix, but I can't tell whether it is a Fender/FSO/J-Bass neck/true P-bass/single-coil P-Bass, etc. That's kind of where I leave it. The purists are absolutely right - with enough ear training, they can hear those small differences and pick a favorite for their own use.
I guess I had my "sound engineer hat" on 😀 - I immediately focused on how much easier it is to mix a Precision vs a Jazz if there's a lot of low-mids on guitars and/or keyboards. In isolation the tone difference isn't significant but in a busy mix the Precision doesn't impact the low-mid problem areas.
