Jazz Bass Pickup upgrade (???)

Yup, it's a Q-tuner. I wouldn't say they're really bright. I mean, they certainly have more brightness than most other pickups,, but they also have more of everything else than most other pickups too. In other words, they are very full spectrum, very clear and very powerful.
A bit pricey, but not a whole lot more (and in some instances, less) than some of the other better p/u's out there. A matched pair for a Jazz is $280. At the moment, I'm trying to choose between a pair of Q-tuner soapbars ($300/pr.) and a pair of Nordstrand Big Splits ($250). Obviously with only a $50 difference the price won't be my determining factor.
I just got an Ultra for my Cort P/J and its a great pickup. Also got it from Best Bass Gear. Can't say anything but good things about those guys. Pup was shipped on Saturday and got here Monday
(way to go USPS!).

I've drop a set of dimarzio DP123 jazz set on my Fender 60 Reissue and it make my bass sound much better. Really fat bottom that a jazz can get and good highs as well. Plus they are dead quite too.

Here is what I know so far hence my 2 cents
DiMarzio DP123 Model J: awesome crushing sound, sounds great in a rock band, however that thick sound can lack dynamics sometimes and get a little boring, especially if you like the biting sound of single coils
DiMarzio DP149 Ultra J: clean sound, punchy, however in my 2 basses they were mid shy, and at high volumes the sound was heavily mid-scooped. Also somebody said that they sounded like a cow mooing, and in some settings I could actually hear that. Disturbing.
Custom Shop 60 reissue: enough bite to make things interesting, not that overwound like Fender claims, but they sure do sound good. Those are going in my home assembled bass

May I ask, how does your basses sound like when they are not amplified. Dark? bright? midrangey?
For a modern tone can you give some examples of both pup's and tone your refering to??? -thx
