Jazz bass question

I'm not sure if I understand the question. When you turn the tone up, the cap would have no affect, in other words, full brightness. changing it will have no affect when it's full on.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm asking if there is a solution that can tame the high end a little. It may just be the nature of the beast. I usually run both pu's wide open then bring up the tone. Anything more than 10% and it just adds way too much treble. I run my amp flat most of the time and use flat wound strings. Could it be the tone pot is going out? Thanks in advance.

From what you're describing, you may need to lower the bridge pickup and/or raise the neck pickup...and I'm not talking about turning down the volume on the bridge pickup. I mean turning the screws down to lower the height of the bridge pickup and/or raising the height of the neck pickup. That may correct your brightness problem.

+1. This has more effect on the way a jazz sounds than most people realize. I have "fixed" a friends jazz by doing this for him. It was the other way, it wouldn't sit in the mix right until we moved the pups around. Finally found the sweet spot and he was happy. Worth a try at least...
