I can recommend Glenn Richman and Andrew Emer from personal experience.

You can inquire about private lessons with either through the Jazzschool in Berkeley.

I have took a jazz class at Berkeley a few years back and Glenn was the teacher and I thought he taught his class well.

I will do some research.

I think you should make different choices if you already play the instrument well and want some jazz technique and theory vs. you are a beginner who wants to play jazz.

If you are a beginner altogether it is best to start with someone who has a strong classical background.

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement. Bruce Moyer is an outstanding classical teacher in the San Jose area.
