Jazz bass tone pot problems

Whenever I down the tone on my Jazz bass, it get really quiet. Is this supposed to happen? I thought only the Volume was supposed to control volume. What can I do to fix this? Get another tone pot?

Have you checked to be sure that the control is not loose, and possibly shorted wires inside? If the capacitor is bypassed (shorted to ground) then the control could act like a volume control.

uhh... I don't know anything about electronics pretty much. When the tone is completely rolled off, there is still a little bit of volume. Would a picture help?

It's typical. If the effect is lessened by increasing the volumes to maximum, it's completely normal. But per above post, you may have a problem.

Does this happen when your volumes are up full?

Well now, When I have both volumes all the way up, no sound is being made whatsoever. It won't make sound at all when the Bridge pick up is 100%, but as long as it's not fully on, it's fine. I always have my Neck Pup at 45% and my Bridge at 60%. I guess that's why I never noticed it cutting out like it's doing now. What sound I do?

Your wiring looks OK. If you lift the control plate off of the body does the sound come back?

No. It's still completely gone.

Check all your wiring. Something in there is bad or you have a short.

The coil around by Bridge pup has a big break in it. I think I will have to save up some money for a new pup. This sucks. I only own one bass too.
