Is it just me or are the frets different?

My Ultra 1 looked like it had gold or brass frets when I got it. Fender sprays the laquer after frets are installed. The ultra had a heavily tinted board so it was very noticeable.

It’ll play off. Some people remove with a hobby knife but I don’t think it’s necessary, never bothered me.

They spray after the frets go in? What a nightmare of a refret that would be. At least Rickenbacker learned that lesson.

it's just the very thin finishing spray, not the thick poly that Rick put on those boards. Refretting is no issue. You'd never noticed it except when it's a vintage tinted finish.

I do agree that it seems "cheap" to do it after the fretwork though.
